NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT VCA
Derek Chirch, former athletic director at Lancaster Christian Academy (Smyrna, TN), has been named the new athletic director at Victory Christian Academy in Valparaiso.

Chirch replaces Nate Shidler, who has accepted a teaching position in Indianapolis for this fall. Shidler served as the head of VCA’s athletic department for four years, overseeing the founding of soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams.

“I’m excited to be able to step into a program with such a solid foundation,” said Chirch. “There is a lot to build on at VCA and I think we have a lot of potential to become an outstanding program.”

Chirch founded the athletic department at Lancaster in 2005, serving as director for four years. During that time, LCA fielded twenty-four teams in volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, football, basketball, soccer, and softball. Chirch was also on the varsity basketball coaching staff for four years and served as head coach for three seasons. Over those four seasons, Lancaster posted a record of 72-39 and won a conference championship. "Along with Mr. Chirch being an innovator in developing athletics, he is a good fit for the school in academics. His teaching assignments include computers which will focus on integrating computers into academics and physical education classes in developing physically fit students. " said Mrs. Joyce Folk, VCA's administrator. "Already Mr. Chirch has created a VCA athletic website, www.vcalionsden.com, that showcases the school's current and future program. I look forward to seeing great things happening at VCA!"

“Founding a program at a small school has given me some great perspective on how to grow a program,” stated Chirch. LCA’s high school enrollment grew from 7 students to over 150 after the founding of the athletic department. Victory hopes to experience similar growth as their athletic offerings continue to expand. Over the next two years, VCA plans to start programs in softball, track and field, baseball, and football, Chirch commented. “I think there are great things ahead for VCA, both on and off the field,” said Chirch.
