The Victory Christian Academy Scholastic Chess Club Program (VCA SCC) is an after-school chess club dedicated to developing sportsmanship, memory, pattern recognition, and problem solving skills through the game of chess and tournament participation. The club meets for weekly practices and will compete in local and regional tournaments every year (state & national if qualifying). Students ranging from grades 4 through 12 are invited to be part of this program. There is an on-line component of the club with student receiving memberships to Chess Kids. Lessons, games, puzzles, and inter-club play is encouraged and assigned each week via the on-line membership. Please contact the head coach, Clint Coleman at email@example.com for more information.
The National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) are the nation's premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NHS and NJHS serve to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character (and Citizenship for NJHS). These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS and NJHS. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Science Olympiad is open to students in grades 5-8 and meets during the winter and spring. The team competes in both local and state competitions.
The VCA Student Council began the 2nd semester of 2011-2012 school year. Any high school student (grades 9-12) can be a part of the council, subject to academic eligibility. A 7th grade boy and girl and 8th grade boy and girl are selected by their homeroom teacher. The purpose of the council is to act as a liaison between student body and administration, seek ways to improve the spirit and environment of the school, and foster the overall character of the school that will bring glory to God. Mr. R. Jones serves as faculty sponsor of the Student Council.
The VCA yearbook is the annual product of a class of students and their advisor, Mr. A. Jones. Together, they work for one semester to assemble photography, class pictures, quotes, stats, and highlights to gather into one book and offer at a low cost to VCA families. The staff works hard to provide a professional, fun, interesting, and colorful yearbook that sums up the school's life over the academic year. If you are interested in offering photography or would like to see something in the yearbook that you haven't seen before, please contact this year's staff at: firstname.lastname@example.org. They'll get in contact with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your interest!
