“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

September 1st marks the meteorological beginning of Fall, which is perhaps my favorite season of the year. I love the cooler temperatures, changing color of the leaves and a return to a more stable routine of life.  Summer, while great, brings the hot muggy days that I do not enjoy. Winter is too gray and cold. And having grown up in Kansas, Spring brings with it an increased risk for storms and tornadoes.

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived (other than Christ), wrote that there is “a season for every activity under the heavens.” And while there are only four seasons, meteorologically speaking, there are other “seasons” of life that have nothing to do with the weather.  It is these types of seasons that Solomon was writing about in Ecclesiastes 3:1. In fact, he listed fourteen “seasons” of life in this verse.

I have spoken with several VCA families recently who dropped off their sons and daughters at college this fall.  That marks a season of life. Others have planned an adult child’s wedding or, sadly, in some cases have planned funerals for loved ones. These, too, are seasons of life. Regardless of the season of life you may be experiencing right now, the good news is that God is sovereign over them all.  And He is with us in each and every season of life.  He will never “leave us nor forsake us.”  May we learn to lean into Him during each season of our lives this school year.

Shepherding His lambs,

David Funk

Superintendent, VCA

Attendance at VCA Sporting Events:  Parents, please do not drop off your students unattended at VCA athletic events; especially elementary school and middle school students. Our athletic handbook states that students must be supervised by a parent or guardian at our games.  Going forward, students found at games without an adult to supervise them will be asked to call their parents to come pick them up.  Ultimately, this is a safety issue.  Thank you.
