For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,  while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Titus 2:11-14 NIV

The Apostle Paul wrote to Titus that God’s grace, offering “salvation to all people”, has appeared. This is certainly true for our generation as well.

Paul went on to write that this grace not only “offers salvation,” but it also “teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.” Jesus “gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to go what is good.” Sadly the church often doesn’t look all that different from the surrounding culture, however. The world desperately needs to see those of us who profess the name of Christ live “upright and godly lives.”

And finally, Paul wrote that we should live out our lives in a way that honors Christ, “while we wait for the blessed hope–the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ."  None of us knows the day of Christ’s return, but His return is certain and in light of current world events, I believe His return is imminent. “Even so, Lord Jesus, come quickly!”

VETERAN’S DAY: Next Saturday is Veteran’s Day. In honor of this special day, VCA will hold a special Veteran’s Day chapel on Friday, Nov. 10th, at our NC.  One of our own VCA parents, Ryan Silver, will be our guest speaker.  Ryan served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years as an F-15 pilot, before transitioning to a pilot with SouthWest Airlines.  We would like to extend a special invitation to all parents, grandparents and friends who have served in our Armed Forces to join us for this special commemoration ceremony as we honor our veterans.  The chapel starts at 8:10 a.m.

WINTER WEATHER came early this year.  Our first snowfall this past week is a good reminder to review the school’s winter weather policy in our handbook.  I have included our “Emergency Closing” procedures below:

  • VCA will text a message through “Remind” SMS and place on the website, www.vcacademy.info, when possible, any weather-related information when school is canceled or when it looks threatening and VCA is having school. Information regarding emergency closings (snow, heat, cold, fog and other problems) can be obtained from the school’ outgoing voice mail (548-8803), on the website, and the Sycamore school login page. Students will be expected to turn in assigned work on the day school resumes after an emergency closing. Assignments not turned in the first day back to school after an emergency closing will be considered late
  • If VCA is having school, all students are expected to attend. Students will no longer be able to be excused if their local public school is not having school and VCA is in session. If a parent feels that the conditions are too dangerous to drive in to school that day, they will need to contact the school and let us know in order for the absence to be counted as “excused.” Teachers will continue in the curriculum they are covering that day. Assignments due that day will be required from students when they return. Students will need to make an effort in obtaining material missed and new class/homework assignments. VCA strongly suggests that students come to school as soon as it is safe to travel so as not to cause disruption to their learning.

NEW SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER Please join us in welcoming David Rosales as our newest school board member.  David and his wife, Jennifer, have two children enrolled at our North Campus, Micah and Emma, and their oldest child, Anthony, graduated from VCA last spring.  David also serves as the high school boys Lacrosse coach.  VCA is always looking for potential school board members.  The qualifications for becoming a board member can be found by contacting our NC office if you or someone you know is interested.
