Staff Christmas Offering

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be used to his own advantage; rather,
he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
Philippians 2:5-8

Philippians 2 is not a passage normally associated with Christmas, but it should be.  Paul writes of Jesus, who “being in very nature God...made Himself nothing by taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Christ, the “Great I AM,” entered our world as a baby and took on “the very nature of a servant.” And He did this in order to redeem and “rescue us from the dominion of darkness” (Colossians 1:13).

God’s redemptive plan in sending His only Son into the world on that first Noel (Christmas) is what we celebrate each year on December 25th. And while the actual date of Christ’s birth is in dispute, there is no disputing what He did in this great redemptive act.  While exchanging gifts, gathering with family and friends and enjoying great food is a big part of this celebration, it is only the byproduct of the true meaning of Christmas.

As we gather with our loved ones this Christmas, may the primary focus of Christ’s coming to earth as a baby to save us from our sins not be forgotten. And “being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross!”
