"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home

and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Moses, just before his death, restated some key final instructions for the nation of Israel before they entered the “Promised Land.”  Among these final instructions are these two verses in Deuteronomy 6. They were to “impress” on the hearts of their children God’s commandments.  And the method for bringing this about was both formal and informal. They were to “talk about them when you sit at home, and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” In other words, they were to talk about God’s Word every day and throughout the day.

Parents, VCA is in a partnership with you and your local church.  But as I have said many times, the school and church are an “extension of the home and not the replacement.” You are responsible for “bringing your children up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

This weekend, speak to your children about the Lord “when you sit at home and when you walk (or drive) along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”  The years they are still at home go by all too quickly. Those of you who have adult children know how true that is.  “Make the most of every opportunity!” (Ephesians 5:15-16)

 Shepherding His Lambs,
