Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
I Corinthians 13:4-8a

Wednesday is Valentine’s Day, celebrated each February 14th around the world. According to legend, St. Valentine was a priest who defied the Roman government and performed wedding ceremonies for Christian couples to delay the conscription of Christian men into the Roman army.  He was martyred for this action. This led to the modern-day connection with and celebration of Valentine’s Day with love and romance.

The Greeks had three words for love: Agape, Phileo, and Eros.  Agape is the strongest of the three and speaks of unconditional love, most fully demonstrated in God sending His Son to die for our sins.  Phileo speaks of “brotherly love” (the city of Philadelphia was named for this word). Eros is the word the Greeks used to describe romantic love, which Valentine’s Day has become associated with.

In I Corinthians 13, the Apostle Paul is describing Agape love. He describes love in terms of what it is and does and in terms of what it isn't and does not do. He concludes by saying that “love never fails.”  Regardless of how you choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day next week, the challenge is to live out our lives for others with a love that “never fails.”  May God give us grace to love others as He has loved us.

2024-2025 RE-ENROLLMENT: Re-enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year will begin on Monday, February 12, 2024.  For three weeks in February, existing VCA families have the opportunity to re-enroll before we open enrollment to the public on March 4.  If you want your child(ren) to attend VCA for the 2024-2025 school year, please do not delay re-enrolling in February.   Because your child attended during the 2023-2024 school year does not guarantee enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year if you do not take advantage of the early re-enrollment period.  We are receiving many calls and inquiries already from prospective new families. Openings will fill up quickly. Re-enrollment will be completed through your Sycamore account. Please contact one of the school offices if you are unable to log in to your Sycamore account.

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTHWe are continuing our appreciation for our area pastors this month by inviting them to lunch at either or both campuses. Parents and students, please reach out to your local pastor (youth, children’s or adult pastors) and invite them to eat lunch with you during February.  The ministry of VCA is a three-way partnership with the school, home, and local church.  “A cord of three strands is not easily broken…” Ecclesiastes 4:12(b)
